Education & ExperienceA high school diploma or GED, or higher, and 3 years of experience as a transit operator or transit dispatcher.
Licenses & Credentials- Texas Class “C” driver’s license (or equivalent)
- Texas Class “B” commercial driver’s license (or equivalent) within 60 days of appointment
- Passenger endorsement within 6 months of appointment
- Rail certification within 60 days of appointment if assigned to supervise and dispatch streetcar operations
Positions of a safety sensitive nature are subject to drug and alcohol testing per federal regulations.
Responsibilities- Supervise daily mass transit operations, enforce municipal codes and ordinances, and dispatch transportation to ensure timely, efficient, and safe customer service.
- Provide guidance and direction to subordinate transit operators, authorize schedule changes, assign operators, buses, and streetcars for run assignments, and arrange substitute operators.
- Prepare daily and hourly manifest, transit route information, and distribute paperwork to operators.
- Monitor field operations, coordinate refueling, issue and control transfers, perform revenue checks and passenger counts.
- Oversee fixed route, streetcar, and/or paratransit operations to ensure sufficient staffing and orderly movement of passengers.
- Inspect interior and exterior of coaches, streetcars, and bus stops for appearance and cleanliness.
- Dispatch calls and information to field personnel and coordinate work crew activities.
- Communicate and maintain effective communication regarding schedules, emergencies, complaints, mechanical problems, breakdowns, work orders, and customer requests.
- Investigate and respond to accidents, passenger complaints, municipal code and city ordinance violations, and emergency situations involving traffic control or transporting passengers.
- Issue parking citations and participate in enforcement as needed.
- Supervise assigned staff, schedule and monitor work, appraise employee performances, assist in training, counsel, motivate, maintain attendance records, and enforce personnel rules and standards.
- Provide assistance when necessary to maintain continuity of operations during absences.
- Perform related duties as required.
- High school diploma or GED (or higher) and at least 3 years of experience as a transit operator or dispatcher.
- Valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license and Class “B” commercial driver’s license (or equivalents).
- Pass drug and alcohol testing for safety sensitive positions.
- Ability to work under general supervision and communicate effectively with field personnel.
- Knowledge of Federal Transit Administration regulations and local municipal codes.
- Strong organizational and supervisory skills, including scheduling, performance evaluation, and staff training.
