Summary: The Safety Instructor will provide hands‑on and classroom‑style educational courses and programs to Workforce & Economic Development (WED) clients on a variety of safety‑related topics. Must be able to work flexible hours. Must be able to work and conduct classes in a variety of school and industrial settings.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in related field of study or minimum of 5 years’ experience working in safety as an instructor, or in a position of similar duties and knowledge; minimum high school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of 3–5 years’ experience working in safety or related field required. Must be certified or able to become certified to teach OSHA 10 & 30.
Preference may be given for ability to communicate in Spanish.
- Provide instruction of safety‑related educational courses and programs to students and clients in the following areas:
- Safeland USA and H2S
- Arc Flash
- Forklifts, Aerial lifts, Telehandler, and Scissor Lifts
- First Aid/AED/CPR (Red Cross, American Heart, Medic 1st Aid)
- Confined Space
- Fall Protection
- Fire Extinguisher
- OSHA 10 & 30, General & Construction
- Respiratory Protection/Fit Testing
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- Present other courses and programs as needed and where qualified
- Maintain current certifications
- Receive direction and respond promptly to queries from district workforce development coordinators who are scheduling training opportunities
- Maintain equipment
- Keep calendar listing of commitments up to date
- Complete all paperwork and data entry for each class
- Willing to attend professional development meetings
- Willing to obtain additional job‑related certifications on an ongoing basis
- Stay current on OSHA regulations and ODOL safety reporting requirements
The primary work environment is in an office/classroom environment that regularly requires employee to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Requires reliable, dependable and punctual attendance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The employee may be around loud machinery, chemical and/or equipment.
