Electrical Trades Instructor – FCI El Reno

Starting Date: Immediately

Job Title: Electrical Trades Instructor at the Federal Correctional Institution at El Reno (FCI-El Reno)

Location: FCI-El Reno, Oklahoma

Reports To: Business & Industry Services Assistant Director

FLSA Status: 12 month, full time, non‑exempt

Benefits: Sick & Personal Leave

Shift Type: Daytime 7 am to 3 pm with one hour unpaid lunch

Salary Range: TBD

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and deliver instruction to students enrolled in the Electrical Trades program at the Federal Correctional Institution, El Reno.
  • Recruit, plan, and lead all teacher‑led instruction, work‑based learning and hands‑on skill development activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and revise curriculum and training materials in accordance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, training equipment inventory, and required documentation for Canadian Valley Technology Center, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.
  • Ensure that all equipment and instructional materials are safe, functional, and compliant with the National Electric Code, state and local building codes, and other relevant regulations.
  • Test students to assess progress and evaluate the effectiveness of the training program.
  • Participate in in‑service meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities, including the New Teacher Academy and other educator development programs.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with inmates, adhere to security procedures, and report any violations of facility rules to staff immediately.
  • Collaborate with Canadian Valley Technology Center Business and Industry Services staff to plan and enhance the curriculum.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years related industry teaching experience within the past five (5) years.
  • Certified to teach in the general field of post‑secondary education in Oklahoma or ability to pursue provisional teacher certification per the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.
  • Current industry credential (Journeyman or Contractor’s license in Electrical).
  • Successful completion of a Teacher Certification Background Check (2B7KS5) and cooperation with all vetting and background checks required by FCI‑El Reno.
  • Experience teaching or training incarcerated adults, or experience in career and technical education, electrical and/or mechanical troubleshooting and repair, or teaching and marketing training programs is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, plan, organize and deliver training programs, and establish effective working relationships with industry representatives, staff, and personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related communication tools (email, text, etc.).
Essential Skills
  • Reasoning:
    Apply common sense to follow instructions and solve problems with concrete variables.
  • Mathematical:
    Add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Computer:
    Operate Microsoft Office applications and email/text messaging.
  • Physical:
    Stand, walk, sit, use hands, lift up to 20 pounds routinely and up to 50 pounds occasionally, and meet visual requirements.
  • Work Environment:
    Moderate noise levels; accommodate reasonable accommodations for disabilities.
