SUMMARY

Maintaining, repairing, and servicing school mechanical systems (heating and air, electrical systems, and plumbing). Position requires knowledge of electrical-mechanical systems, ability to observe operations, detect problems and take appropriate preventative or corrective actions. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a School Bus Driver certificate and CDL.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED; minimum of one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* Monitor electro-mechanical systems daily.

* Conduct preventative maintenance of systems.

* Do repair and corrective maintenance when required.

* Ensure systems operate in a safe and efficient manner.

* Maintain district tools and equipment in good working order.

* Inspect interior and exterior lighting. Replace/repair as necessary.

* Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts; repair or replace defective parts.

* Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments or may install special functional and structural parts.

* Lubricate and clean parts as necessary.

* Start devices to test their performance.

* Notify supervisor of needs for parts and machines.

* Maintain records for equipment showing type, model number, date of installation and extent of servicing.

* Inspect, install, repair, and replace pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating, water, gas and drainage systems of the campus buildings.

* Replace defective pipe by cutting, bending, threading, and assembling pipe.

* Open clogged drains with plumber's snake or vacuum plunger.

* Install, inspect, operate, and repair refrigeration equipment for preserving food, making ice, cooling water, and air-conditioning the campus buildings.

* Report any mechanical failures or negative conditions as observed in assigned area for preparation of work order for maintenance.

* Request help in moving heavy furniture and other items.

* Perform cleaning activities such as dusting, mopping etc.

* Install appliances and equipment.

* Check functionality of safety systems (e.g. fire alarm, fire risers, fire extinguishers, building access control systems, etc.).

* Ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations.

* Attend safety training courses as required.

* Position does require on call rotation

* Position may require overtime and weekends.

* Perform other related duties and activities as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock.

The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
