School Bus Driver/Building Painter

The School Bus Driver / Building Painter is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school and school-related activities. In addition, this position performs painting and general maintenance duties to ensure district facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained. This is a dual-assignment position requiring flexibility and adherence to both transportation and maintenance standards.

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements, or ability to obtain
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass required background checks and drug screening
  • Experience in painting, maintenance, or related field preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Transportation Duties

  • Operate a school bus in a safe and efficient manner on assigned routes
  • Transport students to and from school, field trips, and extracurricular activities
  • Maintain discipline and ensure student safety at all times
  • Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus
  • Report accidents, incidents, and mechanical concerns promptly
  • Maintain required records, including route logs and inspection reports
  • Comply with all local, state, and district transportation regulations and policies

Maintenance / Painting Duties

  • Prepare surfaces for painting, including scraping, sanding, patching, and cleaning
  • Apply paint, stain, and coatings to interior and exterior surfaces
  • Perform minor drywall repair and surface preparation
  • Assist with general building maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Operate and maintain painting tools and equipment
  • Follow all safety procedures related to ladders, scaffolding, and materials
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and traffic laws
  • Knowledge of painting techniques, materials, and tools
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to manage student behavior effectively
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to paint fumes, dust, and cleaning chemicals

Working Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The primary work environment is in transportation and maintenance. The employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time while driving, stand, walk, bend, climb ladder and lift up to 20 pounds regularly. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The employee must have the ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions and tolerate exposure to paint fumes, dust, and cleaning chemicals. The works schedule is a split shift (morning and afternoon bus routes; mid-day and summer maintenance duties). Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. This is not an exhaustive list and reasonable accommodations may be made as needed.
