Material Cost Accountant - Millennium Space Systems

Position Summary

Material Cost Accountant at Millennium Space Systems, a Boeing Defense, Space & Security company. Onsite role in El Segundo, California. Responsibilities include inventory & material accounting, reporting company-owned materials, and ensuring accurate tracking, valuation, and reconciliation of raw materials, parts, and supplies used for production, research, and strategic purposes.

• Accounting for purchases, receipts, transfers, and consumption of materials and company‑owned inventory.
• Performing month‑end close procedures and posting journal entries for inventory movements into the General Ledger.
• Applying company costing methods (FIFO, LIFO, weighted average) to arrive at inventory value.
• Calculating reserves for excess & obsolete (E&O) and slow‑moving inventory.
• Conducting inventory & material analyses required by GAAP, CAS, FAR, or other regulatory bodies such as Lower of Cost or Market analysis, Purchase Price Variance, scrap, inventory reserves, etc.
• Reconciling inventory subledger with general ledger and investigating discrepancies from cycle counts, scrapping, or lost inventory.
• Managing company‑owned inventory accounts, cost of goods sold (COGS) accounts, and other inventory‑related balance sheet accounts.
• Analyzing manufacturing variances (PPV, labor, overhead absorption, scrap) and recommending corrective actions.
• Developing and maintaining standard costing methodologies.
• Ensuring compliance with Boeing accounting policies and internal controls.
• Partnering with corporate audit team to resolve control deficiencies and support compliance efforts.
• Supporting government audits.
• Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to improve data accuracy and streamline inventory and material processes.
• Coordinating with cross‑functional teams for consistent KPI tracking and reporting.
• Leading financial discussions in operations reviews and delivering actionable insights.
• Participating in special projects focused on process improvement, system automation, and policy development.

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CMA, CPA, or MBA preferred).
• Minimum of 10+ years of material and inventory accounting experience in a manufacturing environment or similar.
• Strong knowledge of material accounting, inventory accounting, cost accounting, and financial reporting.
• Experience with Deltek Costpoint or similar ERP systems.
• Proven ability to partner cross‑functionally and influence operational outcomes.
• Ability to analyze data, identify problems, and develop effective solutions.
• Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

• Experience in aerospace and defense or other government contractors.
• Extensive experience with Costpoint, including deep understanding of advanced functionalities and best practices in Accounting and Materials domains.
