Position: Data Process Technician**

ANNUAL SALARY

$45,622 to $66,711 and $49,548 to $72,432. The salary in the Department of Water and Power is $58,818 to $73,080 and $62,159 to $77,214 (08/09/2019).

DUTIES

A Data Processing Technician coordinates and controls jobs processed by computer systems; reviews, prepares, verifies, and coordinates establishment of systems documentation; maintains technical publications and documentation; may operate support data processing equipment in a centralized data processing facility; and administers software products (08/09/2019).

REQUIREMENTS
  • Two years of full‑time paid experience as a Data Entry Operator with the City of Los Angeles; or
  • Two years of full‑time paid experience in the processing and controlling of computer‑based information systems, or in the documenting of information systems requirements and procedures.

SELECTION PROCESS

Examination Weight:
Multiple‑Choice Test 100%.

The examination will consist entirely of a weighted multiple‑choice test administered and proctored online. In the online multiple‑choice test, the following competencies may be evaluated: knowledge of data processing terminology, concepts and descriptive program language, such as Job Control Language; flowcharts, input documents and other source documents related to data processing and production batch jobs; basic computer network concepts and Windows operation;

basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; and the ability to read, comprehend, interpret, and analyze instructions and technical documentation; interact tactfully and effectively with the public, user agencies, and outside vendors; and other necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.

The multiple‑choice test will be proctored and administered online during a single session. Candidates invited to participate will be able to take the test from a remote location using a computer with a webcam and a reliable internet connection. Candidates will receive an e‑mail from the City of Los Angeles outlining the dates and specific steps on how to take the online multiple‑choice test.

It is anticipated that the remote proctored multiple‑choice test will be administered between TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2019 and TUESDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2019. Candidates who do not complete and submit the remote proctored multiple‑choice test online using a computer by the specified date and time will not be considered further in this examination.

FAQ for online testing are available at (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Candidates who do not have the required equipment may have the option to take the multiple‑choice test onsite at a City facility.
