Position Information
Most positions are assigned to work 3‑1/2 hours per day, 5 days per week, 11 months per year.
Summary of DutiesUnder the direct supervision of the infant/toddler center teacher, provide care and supervision to infants and toddlers up to three years of age; demonstrate proper parenting techniques to teen mothers; ensure the health and safety of children; provide for children’s physical needs such as feeding, diapering and toileting; maintain a clean and orderly environment; monitor behavior and children’s activities; maintain records;
and perform other related duties as required.
- Education:
Graduation from high school or its equivalency is required. Applicants must complete six semester or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development within one year of hire. Three of those units must be infant/toddler care. - Experience:
Six months of experience working with infants/toddlers or preschool children required. Experience with high school students is desirable. - Language:
Ability to speak and read Spanish fluently is required.
The examination will consist of an oral interview evaluating knowledge of children’s developmental stages from infant to three years of age; safe practices and procedures related to care and supervision; age‑appropriate play activities; ability to understand and anticipate children’s needs; communicate with infants and toddlers using appropriate language; assist teachers; establish relationships with teachers, parents and children from diverse backgrounds; and speak clearly.
A language proficiency test will evaluate fluency in Spanish.

Vacation:
One day per month of paid status up to 12 days per year, increasing with tenure.
Holidays:
Thirteen paid holidays and one floating holiday per year.
Sick Leave:
One day per full month of service.
