Overview
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, failsafe microreactor that can be transported and run for up to five years without refueling. Radiant aims to provide portable nuclear power with rapid deploy capability for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and critical infrastructure, using modern software engineering to rapidly deliver safe, factory-built microreactors.
Founded in 2020, Radiant plans to test its first reactor next year at the Idaho National Laboratory, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.
Responsibilities- Own design, development, and integration of a 1MW alternator
- Create 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings in CAD and NX
- Coordinate communications with vendors to source all components to build the generator
- Perform bench testing, dynamic testing, and system testing for all subsystem components and models
- Perform hands-on assembly, rapid prototyping, and integration of high voltage electric motors and generators
Skills and Qualifications
- B.S. in mechanical engineering specializing in electric motors
- 5+ years of design experience designing high-voltage and high-power electric motors and/or generators
- Fundamental knowledge of permanent magnet electric motors
- Experience in design, manufacturing, and assembly of electric motors
Skills and Qualifications
- 8+ years of generator design
- M.S in Mechanical Engineering specializing in electric motors
- Knowledge of motor control systems including SVM
- Strong collaboration with turbo machinery, power electronics, thermal, packaging and software teams
- Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission
- Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ
This is an exempt salaried role.
Annual Salary Range: $158,000 - $247,275 USD
Total Compensation and BenefitsRadiant offers base salary, substantial equity grants, and comprehensive health benefits. Compensation is determined through evaluation of interview performance, experience, education, and qualifications.
