Job Overview
Vibroacoustics and Shock Engineer (Engineering Specialist/Sr Engineering Specialist – Aeronautical and Acoustics Engineering) – El Segundo, CA (at least 4 days onsite) – responsible for expanding and implementing environmental standards and providing technical support for dynamic environment testing.
Responsibilities- Identify areas for development in environmental standards or analysis and work with management and teams to execute.
- Lead technical assessments and serve as point of contact on multiple programs or projects, coordinating and contributing to work within and outside the core team.
- Select and set up instrumentation for dynamic environments testing.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to staff.
- Engage with industry and contribute to media updates on test philosophy and recommended practice for new systems.
- Initiate outreach to other engineering departments and program offices for collaborative efforts and funding.
- Present technical and project status briefings to management, internal and external customers, and contractors.
- Travel to customer and contractor facilities to support relevant reviews and testing.
- Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, Aerospace Engineering or a related field. - 6+ years of professional or academic experience.
- Experience in dynamic environments testing, instrumentation selection and analysis.
- Knowledge of finite element analysis and other computational methods for vibroacoustics.
- Knowledge of statistical energy analysis and boundary element analysis.
- Data processing and spectral analysis of dynamic signals.
- Experience with Wave6 or other commercial vibroacoustics software.
- Clear communication skills – can present results in briefings and reports.
- Comfort with Python programming.
- Current TS/SCI security clearance (U.S. government issued) and U.S. citizenship.
- For Sr. Engineering Specialist: 10+ years of experience, relevant spacecraft vibroacoustic or shock experience, and demonstration of technical assessments and standards tailoring with outside disciplines.
- Advanced degree in a related field with coursework in structural dynamics.
- 15+ years of professional experience in structural dynamics.
- Proficiency with commercial vibroacoustic and FE analysis tools (Wave6, VA One, FEMAP, Hypermesh, NASTRAN).
- Experience solving vibroacoustics and shock problems analytically.
- Hands‑on hardware experience at or outside the workplace.
