The Boeing Company, Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), Space Mission Systems (SMS) Division, seeks a System Architect to join the Space Systems Engineering team in El Segundo, California. Our team works with commercial, government, and proprietary customers in the development and deployment of next‑generation technologies and systems in space. The candidate will provide high‑impact, creative solutions to complex technical problems, work as part of a large team, and provide critical support and independent review of teammates’ work.
The team is hiring for a broad range of experience levels, including experienced and senior level engineers.
- Work collaboratively with a multi‑discipline team to decompose system requirements into functional and logical architectures and allocate logical architecture to physical implementation.
- Capture system requirements traceability within the system architecture model.
- Apply model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) methodology to develop system architectural views using Systems Modeling Language (SysML).
- Analyze MBSE models to derive system Con Ops through use of mission threads and use‑case scenario analyses.
- Utilize the system architecture model in support of systems engineering milestone reviews such as SRR, SDR, PDR, and CDR.
- Ensure that system models are compliant with a standard outlined by the customer‑approved style guide and the internal systems architecture/MBSE development plan.
- Review and translate customer reference architecture models to internal architecture models.
- Provide input to continuously improve MBSE training, processes, and tools.
- Mentor systems engineers in MBSE processes and tools.
- Foster strong customer relationships.
- Provide 100% on‑site presence at the listed location.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship required. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance post‑start is required.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science from an accredited institution.
- 1+ year of experience with systems engineering processes and tools.
- 1+ year of experience creating MBSE system models in Cameo, MSOSA, or similar software.
- Experience with Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).
- Previous experience implementing model‑based approaches on engineering projects/programs, ensuring seamless integration of delivered models within the receiving architecture and digital engineering platform.
- Experience with model‑derived Con Ops requirements development, interface control documentation, technical specification review, and architecture development.
- 5+ years of related work experience for Level3 (Experienced).
- 9+ years of related work experience for Level4 (Lead).
- 1+ year of experience within the aerospace, defense, or similar high‑tech industry.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively influence diverse audiences on digital concepts and technologies.
- Ability to provide technical and programmatic recommendations on the development, integration, and use of digital engineering and MBSE concepts and structures.
- Experience leading technical teams or projects.
- Successful candidate must satisfy the company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
