Overview

The Mechanical Analysis and Test (MA&T) Department ensures structural and thermal design robustness across Raytheon products. We seek a mid-level Senior Thermal Engineer to join the MA&T Center in El Segundo, CA.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform hand calculations to determine scoping for higher detail analysis models.
  • Conduct detailed thermal analyses to solve various program thermal challenges, ranging from classical hand analyses to finite element methods.
  • Generate test plans to validate analyses and verify hardware compliance.
  • Analyze test data to validate and correlate models.
  • Collaborate with experienced analysts on moderate‑complexity problems within program cost and schedule constraints.
  • Review own work with peers to ensure technical accuracy.
  • Present results to internal, external, and government customers.
  • Document work in detail and archive for reference.
  • Act as a technical leader, helping define or refine MA&T technical processes and tools, and/or lead analysis/test teams.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in thermal analysis using tools such as FloTHERM, PATRAN, Thermal Desktop/SINDA, ANSYS or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical principles to solve classical thermal analysis without and with finite element tools, and an ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in thermal testing: planning, organization, execution, data reduction and correlation.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. government issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in thermal analysis of complex systems requiring collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience with solid modeling CAD tools such as CREO or equivalent.
  • Experience with thermal analysis of electro‑optical sensor systems.
  • Experience with planning and performing Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) testing.
  • Experience with orbital thermal analysis using Thermal Desktop or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of thermal analysts on program efforts.
  • Experience leading thermal testing, including model correlation.
  • Experience presenting to external customers.
  • Ability to travel to government and other facilities to support program activities.
  • Advanced degree in a related discipline; ABET accreditation preferred but not required.
Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $95,500 – $181,700 USD.
