Position Overview
The Aerospace Corporation seeks a Plasma Science Research Associate (Research Associate III/IV) to work full‑time on‑site at our facility in ElSegundo, California. This role supports the Electric Propulsion & Plasma Science Section by performing technical assessment, research and development, risk mitigation, and anomaly investigation through laboratory experimentation and analysis.
Key Responsibilities- Design, fabrication, instrumentation, and troubleshooting of new experiments.
- Maintain and upgrade existing experiments.
- Support scientists and engineers on projects and interface with internal support organizations.
- Perform technical assessment, research and development, risk mitigation, anomaly investigation and resolution.
- Contribute to the readiness of electric propulsion and plasma science test infrastructure.
- Carry out duties as assigned, which may change or expand.
- Strong written and oral communication.

- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical engineering, physics, or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years experience in industry or research environment.
- Fabrication skills with hand tools and basic machine tools.
- Working knowledge of electronics, basic circuit design.
- Experience with data acquisition systems, measurement hardware, sensors, wiring, and data acquisition software.
- Master’s degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical engineering, physics, or related discipline.
- Minimum 6 years experience in industry or research environment.
- Experience with mechanical CAD and analysis software.
- Experience modifying and maintaining NI LabVIEW programs, DAQ systems, and PLC programming.
- Precision fabrication experience and machine shop interfacing.
- Experience with vacuum systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Experience in a plasma science or electric propulsion laboratory.
- Experience with high purity low‑pressure gas flow systems.
Pay range: $86,700 – $136,420 per annum (grade‑based).
