Systems Engineer, Test Engineer
Position Overview
Principal Systems Engineer – Mission Systems, Collins Aerospace (RTX company) – located in El Segundo, CA. The role focuses on the Global Positioning System (GPS)-Based Positioning, Navigation and Timing Service (GPNTS) program within the Multi-Domain Assured Navigation & Timing Applications (MANTA) group.
Responsibilities- Review and analyze system level requirements; develop verifiable system level requirements.
- Develop and execute test plans, verification and acceptance test procedures, including script development and use of test equipment such as GPS simulators to verify system requirements and prove compliance.
- Manage updates and timely release of CDRLs/SDRLs, improving documentation cycle time and customer satisfaction.
- Contribute to technical interchange meetings and design reviews (TRR, PDR, CDR).
- Provide verbal and written status on assigned Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) tasks.
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years experience.
- Active and transferable U.S. government‑issued security clearance (Secret) required at day1; U.S. citizenship required.
- Working knowledge of system engineering fundamentals and the ability to collaborate with all engineering disciplines and program management.
- Experience creating system block diagrams and analyzing system performance based on customer requirements specifications.
- Experience in Development, System Test and Sell‑off, involving hardware/software.
- Familiarity with industry standards including MIL‑STD‑810, MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑704, ARINC and RTCA standards.
- Experience in system, software and hardware requirements management, traceability and allocation.
- Familiarity with EVM systems, ETCs and ECPs.
- Experience with test equipment/tools, technical reviews and production readiness.
- Minimum 10 years experience in RF/IR signal processing, electronics, navigation (GPS or inertial), modeling and simulation (e.g., 6‑DOF), aerodynamics, missile‑related mechanical engineering.
- Understanding of guidance and navigation systems with experience in GPS receiver system design, integration, test, verification and validation.
- Familiarity with GPS standards (e.g., AV‑861, DO‑229) and subsystem or systems architecting, system‑of‑systems definition.
- Familiarity with MOSA/SOSA/VITA/FACE standards.
- Development of Python scripts and working knowledge of model‑based systems engineering (MBSE).
- Proficiency in DOORSNG.
- Experience in Agile development and tools such as JIRA/Confluence.
- Experience with commercial test equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, signal generator, spectrum analyzer, logic analyzer).
