Mattel, Inc. is seeking a creative Associate Packaging Engineer to join its team of innovative packaging professionals. The role will focus on IP brands such as Hot Wheels, Barbie, Matchbox and licensed brands like Disney Princess, Disney Cars, Toy Story, WWE, Jurassic World, and many others. The position is located at Mattel's Handler Team Center at its Worldwide Headquarters in El Segundo, CA.
We are looking for a packaging individual who is involved in the package design process (not just production), proficient in Artios CAD and 3D modeling (e.g., Solidworks). The candidate will drive the packaging process with project management and creative skills, working collaboratively with Packaging Design Staff, Marketing, Product Design, Project Managers, and overseas counterparts.
Responsibilities- Design and develop innovative structural packaging solutions to support worldwide product launches.
- Create innovative structures to ensure competitive advantage and protect complex products.
- Originate a package concept for cost estimation and provide alternative solutions to achieve cost savings.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently while adhering to packaging and business schedules.
- Produce standard engineering drawings and work with paper materials and multiple plastics.
- Convey design ideas visually and verbally to cross‑functional teams.
- Present ideas, problems and solutions to management and peers.
- Act as liaison and creative engineering partner with the China team.
- Participate in team, department and management meetings.
- Support toy fair requirements throughout the year.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Experience in packaging or industrial design.
- Highly creative with ability to develop innovative package solutions.
- Knowledge of package manufacturing processes and capable of generating detailed packaging specifications.
- Experience working in a team environment under tight deadlines, building strong relationships.
- Proficiency in Artios CAD and 3‑D modeling.

- Create innovative structures to ensure competitive advantage.
- Design 3D structures that complement and protect complex products.
- Work on multiple projects concurrently.
- Adhere to packaging/business schedules.
- Present ideas, problems, and solutions to management and peers with clear communication.
- Create standard engineering drawings for Mattel.
- Strong organizational skills and initiative.
The annual base salary range for this position is between $71,000 and $85,000. This range is indicative of the projected hiring range; the actual base salary will be determined based on the candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
