Position: Next Gen OPIR Polar Multi-Disciplinary Engineer

Project Engineer – Multidisciplinary Engineering, Next Gen OPIR Polar

The Aerospace Corporation’s Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis‑based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, and warfighter capability enablers. This position supports the U.S. Space Force (USSF) in the construction and fielding of next‑generation OPIR Space Vehicles for Polar orbits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance and assessments on Flight‑2 builds of Space Vehicles for the USSF and prime contractor.
  • Support fabrication and mechanical assembly of Flight‑2 builds on-site in ElSegundo, CA, and at the Prime Contractor facility in Redondo Beach, CA.
  • Execute independent assessments of prime contractor activities and deliver guidance on space vehicle electronics, including Red Flag reports.
  • Lead and coordinate ETG SME activities on FRB’s and other non‑conformances.
  • Engage in strategic planning, collaborating with USSF, government contractors, and Aerospace SMEs to address challenges and deliver integrated operational capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline.
  • 8+ years of proven experience evaluating spacecraft subsystems, MRB/FRB root‑cause investigations, or spacecraft bus background in a space environment.
  • Hands‑on experience with root‑cause/ corrective‑action analysis; ETG labs and capabilities; major space vehicle subsystems; microelectronics.
  • Familiarity with production challenges and risk management.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in spacecraft systems and FRB/MRB diagnostics within a space environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing subcontractor challenges, risk management, and unit delivery in space vehicle build processes.
  • History of advising US Government customers at critical decision milestones, including risk assessments.
  • Lead experience on critical ETG subsystem teams.
  • Current Secret clearance; SCI clearance preferred.
Compensation

$117,300–$175,900annually (grade‑based pay range).
