Electromechanical Controls Engineer

Position Overview

The Aerospace Corporation is a federally funded research and development center focused on space systems. We are hiring a Junior Electromechanical Controls Engineer in our Electromechanical Control Department to support spacecraft and launch vehicle control systems.

• Conduct technical studies involving analysis, simulation, evaluation, and testing of control systems and components.
• Verify contractor designs, approaches, and overall system performance.
• Perform experimental investigations in the Mechatronics Research Laboratory or other Aerospace labs, including controller design and implementation, data reduction and visualization, sensor and actuator performance evaluation, and electro‑optical system calibration and alignment.
• Support multiple programs, clearly communicating results to external customers and internal stakeholders as a technical authority, consultant, or project lead.
• Communicate orally and in writing with higher management, program offices, customers, contractors, and colleagues.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline (obtained within the last 12 months or currently pursuing).
• 0–1 year of industry experience.
• Proficiency in laboratory experimentation, test strategy development, experiment design, and integration and testing.
• Experience with electronics, mechanical design, control systems, inertial sensors, and actuators relevant to spacecraft and/or launch vehicles.
• Experience providing technical support in complex, multi‑program, multi‑agency environments.
• Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, dSPACE, LabVIEW, Solid Works, C/C++, and Python.
• Willingness to travel occasionally and work off‑business hours (approximately 10%) as required.

• Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (preferred).
• Hardware expertise in sensors, actuators, and integrated systems such as electric motors, rotational sensors, reaction wheels, and control moment gyros.
• Familiarity with launch vehicle and satellite payloads and control relationships.
• Active secret clearance or the ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.

The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

$90,000.00–$ per year, grade-based pay range.
