How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:The Energy Control Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing Metro Transit’s facility energy control / Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program to ensure the safe maintenance and servicing of machinery and equipment. This position ensures compliance with OSHA 29 CFR and related safety standards, to reduce the risk of hazardous energy release and strengthen the organization’s safety culture through training, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Develop, implement, and maintain the facility’s LOTO program to ensure safe isolation of hazardous energy sources and compliance with OSHA 29 CFR
- Develop, maintain, and update procedures and documentation
- Ensure all energy isolation points are properly identified, labeled, and documented within facility systems
- Coordinate periodic inspections and annual audits to verify compliance and program effectiveness.
- Ensure lockout devices, tags, and materials are maintained at appropriate levels and in working condition.
- Oversees documentation, audits, and program improvements to support operational safety
Provide LOTO training, maintain compliance documentation, and partner with supervisors to ensure consistent enforcement and understanding of energy control procedures among all employees.
Operational & Technical Support:Provides technical guidance and direct field support for maintenance and operations activities involving hazardous energy control, ensuring safe isolation, verification, and re-energization procedures are followed:
- Assist maintenance and operations teams in developing and verifying safe lockout plans for new or modified equipment.
- Provide on-site supervision or verification during complex or high-risk lockout procedures.
- Collaborate with engineering, capital project, and vendor teams to incorporate LOTO requirements into design and installation.
- Investigate and report LOTO-related incidents or near misses, recommending corrective actions.
- Coordinate safe re-energization and return-to-service verification following maintenance or emergency shutdowns.
- Provide technical consultation to Facilities, EHS, and Safety staff on energy isolation challenges.
- Analyzes audit and incident data to identify trends and propose procedural improvements
- Participate in safety meetings, hazard analyses, and risk assessments to promote safety culture
- Develop and implement corrective actions resulting from investigations or inspections
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure LOTO effectiveness
