Structural Engineer III

DPP is seeking a Structural Engineer III for an opportunity with our client in the Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing industry.

Work location:

Onsite in El Segundo, CA

Work schedule:

9x80 A shift Duration: 3 months

Terms:

W2 contract Work authorization: US Citizen; must be eligible to obtain and maintain a US Government secret security clearance

Position Summary:

The Structural Engineer III will support the Tooling department. The candidate will have a structural analysis background to assist in generating the structural engineering analysis packages to demonstrate compliance of tooling fixtures such as assembly work stands and lifting jigs in an aerospace fabrication environment. This role shall analyze, research and provide input on product design, or operation of product involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials.

Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability, stress, fatigue, damage tolerance, durability, and design allowables.

Responsibilities:
  • Be familiar with current fabrication/machine shop practices to provide guidance to engineers.
  • Work autonomously and in a team environment, adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation.
  • In this role, you will assist in the design of industrial tools, assembly structures, lifting jigs, composite dies, drill fixtures, machine attachments and equipment, required for production or experimental use.
Day-to-Day:
  • Perform structural analysis via hand calculations and FEMAP/NASTRAN software
  • Create reports in support of completed analysis as well as review reports of others
  • Concise presentation and explanation of structural issues/solutions to internal management and customer representatives.
  • Engage with other team members in meetings, 1:1's and others in order to provide the right solution to complex engineering problems
  • Evaluation of engineering products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications
  • Static and dynamic analysis in support of Tooling fixtures and structures
  • Identify and mitigate safety risks in accordance with company and state/government standards
  • Develop and conceptualize designs using 3D modeling tools including NX & CATIA
  • Create drawings for fabrication via CAD in compliance with ASME Y14.1-5 standards for fabrication.
Required Qualifications:
  • Analysis of simple to complex problems via hand calculations and FEA
  • Experience with stress analysis techniques, concepts and practices
  • Basic knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (CATIA/NX).
  • Engineering Drawings & Specs - Basic ability to create, read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications in accordance with ASME 14.5. Basic level understanding of GD&T
  • Able to communicate with various levels of leadership, must be able to coordinate and resolve interpersonal and technical problems and must work well either in a team or independently with limited guidance
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance as well as special program access
  • Bachelor's (STEM) Degree with experience in medium to large scale tooling fabrication and/or production fabrication including composites, metallic, coatings application, and/or production manufacturing operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Professional Engineering License (preferably from California) or working to obtain PE
  • Direct experience with Tooling mechanics and analysis relative to stress
  • Experience with fabrication applying such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements.
  • Current active DOD Secret clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years
