Discover opportunities to make a difference theon Intelligence & Space is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the space mechanisms team supporting mechanisms development, integration and test across multiple space programs in El Segundo, CA.

The selected candidate will perform mechanical component and mechanisms design on opto‑mechanical systems using Creo, and support assembly, integration and test activities in a lab environment. The candidate is expected to work with a team of specialized junior and senior manufacturing and mechanical engineers to support the design, build and test of EO/IR space hardware.

• Creating and/or revising opto‑mechanical designs/drawings
• Generating assembly instructions and providing build support in conjunction with technicians and other engineering disciplines, as well as design for producibility and manufacturability
• Presenting work for peer reviews

• Familiar with the design and requirements of mechanisms components and assemblies
• Have a basic understanding of moving mechanism assembly industry specs and standards as well as a basic knowledge of tribology methods used in industry
• Apply the standards and knowledge to design and analysis of moving mechanical assemblies
• Generate detailed design drawings incorporating GD&T to ensure the requirements are maintained
• Work with a cross‑functional engineering and analysis team involving material selection, thermal management, precision mechanical mounting and motion, and structural optimization while balancing schedule constraints
• Understand change management and process engineering changes in a product data management tool
• Include creation, rework and changes to the design as the changes occur
• Contact primarily with the immediate section manager, team lead, project leaders and other personnel (peers) within the applicable program

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related (STEM) major obtained by start date
• Experience in commercial CAD software
• Experience in Creo
• Experience in the design and development of mechanical hardware
• Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects

• Project Experience in mechanisms design or analysis of space flight hardware
• Project Experience in build and/or test of mechanisms
• Exposure to GD&T and Tolerance analysis for designs/drawings
• Experience leading a design or build team on a project
• Knowledge of DFMA principles and modern machining techniques
• Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace
• Understanding of Change Management, and processing Engineering Changes in a Product Data Management Tool
• Basic knowledge of motors, position feedback sensors, bearings, and gears
