Commercial Construction GC looking for a Controller to add to their growing team.
A leading West Coast commercial construction firm specializing in ground-up builds, tenant improvements, and complex renovation projects across industrial, office, retail, and healthcare environments. The company is known for its hands-on leadership, rigorous project management, strong safety culture, and long-standing partnerships with national brands. Salary
: $150,000 - $200,000 per year
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions including AP/AR, general ledger, payroll, fixed assets, and month-end close.
- Ensure timely, accurate financial statements and internal reporting for the CFO, executive team, and department leaders.
- Manage job costing, WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and project financial controls in alignment with GAAP and construction accounting standards.
- Maintain a strong internal control environment, including policies, documentation, reconciliations, and compliance procedures.
- Partner with the CFO to prepare annual budgets, reforecasts, and financial models.
- Provide variance analysis and financial insights to help operations, PMs, and leadership teams improve project margins and cost performance.
- Support cash flow forecasting, working capital tracking, and short-term liquidity needs.
- Drive continuous improvement across accounting processes to reduce errors, speed up close cycles, and enhance financial visibility.
- Standardize accounting workflows across branches and project teams as the company scales.
- Support multi-state compliance including sales/use tax, payroll tax, licensing, insurance, and bonding documentation.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, insurance partners, and banking institutions as needed.
- Lead, mentor, and develop an accounting team capable of supporting a fast-growing, geographically distributed organization.
- 7–10+ years of accounting experience, ideally within construction, engineering, or another project-based industry.
- Strong technical foundation in job costing, WIP reporting, POC revenue recognition, project cost controls, and multi-entity accounting.
- Experience supporting companies between $100M–$250M+ in revenue and working within a scaling environment.
- Demonstrated success leading accounting teams, improving processes, and implementing/upgrading ERP and accounting systems.
- Proven ability to partner with operations, PM teams, and senior leadership.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP; experience with multi-state tax environments preferred.
- CPA required or strongly preferred.
