Position OverviewWe are seeking a Data Center Field Technician to provide hands-on, on-site support for critical infrastructure in a high-availability data center environment. This role is responsible for deploying, maintaining, and repairing server and network hardware that powers global production networks.
You will work closely with the remote Network Operations Control Center (NOCC), logistics, and engineering teams to execute physical data center tasks, including racking and stacking, structured cabling, hardware diagnostics, and component replacement.
Because this is a cleared contract role, the technician will support both classified and commercial environments and must maintain an active DoD Secret clearance.
This position is ideal for technically skilled professionals who enjoy hands-on work, can operate independently, and thrive in fast-paced, mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities- Deploy, install, and decommission servers, network devices, and related hardware
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and replace failed hardware components (e.g., drives, memory, power supplies, optical transceivers)
- Perform structured cabling installations, including fiber and copper cabling; run, label, test, and document patch panels and connections
- Execute work based on detailed work orders, diagrams, and remote engineering instructions
- Collaborate with remote NOCC, logistics, and engineering teams for deployments, troubleshooting, and escalations
- Accurately document work performed and maintain real-time updates in internal ticketing systems
- Maintain data center cleanliness and adhere to security, safety, and compliance policies
- Coordinate RMAs, hardware returns, and logistics activities
- Receive, inspect, and unpack hardware shipments
- Perform routine hardware inspections, asset tracking, audits, and inventory updates
- 1–3 years of experience in a data center, telecom, or IT hardware support role
- Strong understanding of server, router, and switch hardware components
- Working knowledge of fiber and copper cabling standards and best practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to documentation
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks
- Physical ability to lift and carry 50–70 lbs. and work in confined, elevated, or physically demanding spaces
- Valid driver’s license with willingness to travel to local or regional sites as needed
- Basic personal tool kit (e.g., screwdrivers, socket set, pliers, snips, box cutter)
- Experience working in colocation or cloud data center environments
- Familiarity with ticketing and asset management systems
- Understanding of fiber hygiene and handling best practices
- Hands-on experience replacing server and network hardware components
- Experience installing and maintaining structured cabling
- Experience supporting or deploying network infrastructure
