Position OverviewA senior Mechanical Technician will support fabrication, integration, and testing of space‑flight systems and support equipment at Millennium Space Systems (MSS), a part of Boeing Defense, Space and Security. The role is located in El Segundo, California, and requires 100% onsite presence. The selected candidate will work primarily on 2nd shift, but additional shifts may be required as program needs dictate.
PositionResponsibilities
- Assemble, install, test, check out, and inspect mechanical spacecraft assemblies by interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Perform second‑party verifications and visually inspect mechanical assemblies against drawings and written procedures.
- Operate materials handling equipment, including forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lift equipment, and truck/tractor‑tender combinations.
- Operate a variety of machine tools such as drill presses, grinders, chop saws, and hand tools.
- Interface with Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, Procurement, and Shipping personnel on procedural issues involving design, methods, tooling, cost, and quality control.
- Provide support in other mechanical areas as directed by MSS leadership.
- Cross‑train and mentor new hires.
Primarily 2nd shift; additional shift assignments may be required.
Union- This is an hourly union‑represented position governed by the Cabinet Makers, Millmen and Industrial Carpenters Union (CMM&IC Local 721).
- New hires and employees transferring from non‑union roles may be required to attend or complete training within their 90‑day probationary period. Continued employment is contingent on successful completion of the probationary period.
Position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret clearance post‑start is required.
Basic Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED.
- More than 5 years of experience in structures, mechanical, electrical, or final assembly.
- More than 3 years of experience following written and verbal work instructions.
- More than 3 years of experience working with blueprints, specifications, assembly drawings, and standard operating procedures.
- More than 3 years of experience setting and using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
- More than 3 years of experience working with adhesives, composites, epoxy, fabrics, honeycomb core, laminates/plastics, or resins.
- Ability to stand and move (reach, bend, or stoop) to handle products for extended periods with only short breaks.
- Capable of lifting 20 lbs or more on a frequent basis.
- More than 3 years of experience using hand tools, test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and sheers.
- More than 3 years of experience using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- More than 3 years of experience working in a 100,000‑class cleanroom environment.
- More than 5 years of experience building component‑level space products (e.g., avionics boxes, batteries, mechanisms, optics, PCB assemblies, solar arrays).
- More than 5 years of experience troubleshooting, disassembling, and repairing mechanical systems.

Pay & BenefitsDerived from a Total Reward package that includes competitive base pay, variable compensation opportunities, health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance, and paid/unpaid leave. Pay ranges from $29.42 to $47.09 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
