Perform skilled electrical work in the construction, installation, alteration, preventive and corrective maintenance and repair of varied commercial lighting, power and electrical distribution systems and equipment at Minneapolis‑St. Paul International Airport and associated facilities. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of medium voltage switch‑gear and transformers; maintenance of airfield lighting, signage and NAVAIDS; and other tasks as assigned. This position may also perform duties at the reliever airports.
Hours of work:
Monday – Friday. Assigned shifts are based on seniority; current shifts are listed below.
- First Shift – 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Second Shift – 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
- Third Shift – 10:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
- Second shift = $1.40 per hour.
- Third shift = $1.80 per hour.
- As of May 1, 2026: $63.206/hour
A CDL is required for this role. If you do not have one currently, MAC will assist to acquire a CDL which includes the training course fees. A CDL must be acquired within the first 6‑month probation time period.
This is a safety‑sensitive position which will require a pre‑employment drug screen.

- Perform maintenance and repair of lighting for roadways, parking facilities, signage, interior and exterior lighting for buildings.
- Maintain and repair ramp, airport beacon and airfield lighting.
- Maintain and repair medium voltage switch gear, field lighting regulators, standby generators, transformers, motor control systems, and motors on all types of equipment.
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on wiring and control problems on equipment due to insulation breakdown, short circuits, broken parts, burned parts, worn parts, etc.
- Replace wiring, ballasts, transformers, sockets, lamps, coils, contacts, switches, receptacles, bearings, etc.
- Service and repair security gates.
- Initiate preventive maintenance on equipment by cleaning, oiling, greasing and replacement of parts.
- Perform locating services for any excavation on airport property as directed.
- Perform diagnostics and repairs underground cabling and equipment.
- Perform work from work orders, oral instructions, sketches, schematics, etc.
- Install wiring and devices on building remodeling projects and equipment replacement.
- Repair and install VFDs, meters and other systems and equipment.
- Maintain and repair secured card access systems; fire alarm systems; and UPS systems.
- Follow safety and security policies, procedures, and directives.
- Operate stand‑by and portable generators, and portable pumps.
- Operate aerial lifts in excess of 85 feet.
- Climb ladders and scaffolds with no height restrictions to perform assignments.
- Work in confined spaces.
- Operate computerized systems associated with airfield lighting, generators, and facility monitoring systems.
- Obtain and maintain MAC required licenses and certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Successful completion of a state approved apprenticeship program for a Class A Journeyman Electrician and four (4) years of experience as a Class A or higher Journeyman Electrician.
- Possession of a valid MN Class A Journeyman Electricians License.
- Possession of a Commercial driver’s license permit within 6 months of hire and the ability to obtain a CDL within one year of appointment.
- Possession of or agree to obtain a complete set of basic electrician tools by date of hire.
- Basic proficiency with web browsers, email, and word processing.
- Ability to work outdoors in severe and varied weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, position, carry and pull 75 pounds.
