Instrument Mechanic II

Under general supervision the Instrument Mechanic II installs, repairs, maintains, and adjusts indicating, recording, telemetering, and controlling instruments used to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, motion, force, and chemical composition.

Typical duties include: diagnosing/repairing complex HVAC control systems malfunctions, inspecting and evaluating HVAC control systems, disassembling malfunctioning instruments, troubleshooting equipment, responding to system alarms, monitoring heating and cooling systems, replacing defective HVAC electrical and electronic controls, monitoring energy management control systems, observing pressure and vacuum gauges, checking distribution systems, responding to emergency calls, following procedures and guidelines, and providing technical support.

Minimum qualifications include: eight or more years of field experience servicing and repairing HVAC equipment and controls, ability to write and test modifications in multiple languages of system software, comprehensive knowledge of computer operated HVAC control systems, ability to read and interpret schematics, advanced knowledge of energy management control systems, ability to diagnose and resolve advanced network operation problems, knowledge of computer systems operation and network administration, ability to use industry hand and machine tools, ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and written instructions, and advanced electrical and electronic trouble shooting skills.

Physical requirements include: maneuvering to, in, and around equipment, bending, kneeling, stooping and reaching, climbing stepstools or ladders, lifting and moving heavy equipment up to 35 pounds, climbing ladders to gain access to rooftop equipment, and monitoring computer systems and control displays.

Work environment includes: work performed at a customer's location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment, driving to and from worksite locations, equipment located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility, and exposure to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and external weather conditions.
