Job Overview
The Software Product Assurance Center’s Software Security Sensors and Effectors Department is seeking a highly skilled embedded software engineer to employ Agile development techniques on embedded targets. The role involves software and firmware design, development, integration, and testing of real‑time embedded solutions, supporting overall system integrity and collaborating closely with Systems Engineering and Hardware Engineering.
Responsibilities• Design, develop, and test embedded applications using C and C++ on Linux and real‑time operating systems.
• Participate in creating design concepts and system architectural documentation, breaking down requirements for software development.
• Attend Technical Integration Meetings with subcontractors to verify hardware meets software needs.
• Apply embedded principles to hardened software applications as individual or team member.
• Ensure consistency across teams and eliminate impediments as they arise.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field and minimum 5 years of related experience.
- Experience in an Agile and Dev Sec Ops environment developing and maintaining software on embedded processors or microcontrollers.
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with systems, hardware, and other engineering disciplines to debug system‑ and board‑level issues using software tools.
- Experience working in a Linux environment with ability to modify and maintain Linux kernel root file systems.
- Experience developing multi‑threaded applications.
- Requirement to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
- Proficiency with RTOS systems, Linux device drivers, and/or embedded Linux.
- Experience developing and troubleshooting on embedded targets.
- Experience designing, implementing, testing, or deploying real‑time embedded software solutions.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and apply critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to diagnose customer issues.
- Knowledge of modern computer architectures and hardware technologies, including x86 and ARM architectures, FPGAs, Linux kernel development and device drivers, and bare‑metal software development.
- Experience using version control systems such as Git or Subversion.
- Strong knowledge of building and maintaining a code base with CMake and Google Test.
Salary range: 95,500 USD – 181,700 USD, with compensation based on role, experience, location, and skills.
