Software Engineer – Embedded (Software Security Sensors and Effectors Department)
The Security Sensors and Effectors Department of the Software Product Assurance Center seeks a highly skilled embedded software engineer to employ Agile development techniques on embedded targets to continuously develop critical capabilities for warfighters. The role involves software and firmware design, development, integration, and testing of real‑time embedded solutions, working closely with Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, and subcontractors to create hardened software applications using C/C++ on Linux and other real‑time operating systems.
Responsibilities- Analyze and document system design, generating and decomposing requirements to support software development.
- Participate in Technical Integration Meetings with subcontractors to verify hardware and software requirements.
- Design, develop, and test embedded software on Linux and RTOS using C and C++.
- Debug system and board‑level issues in collaboration with cross‑disciplinary engineering teams.
- Apply embedded software principles to create hardened applications for mission‑critical systems.
- Ensure consistency across teams and proactively remove impediments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in embedded software development.
- Proven track record in Agile/Dev Sec Ops environments developing and maintaining software on embedded processors or microcontrollers.
- Experience debugging across hardware/software boundaries using software diagnostic tools.
- Proficiency with Linux environments, including modification and maintenance of Linux kernel root file systems.
- Experience developing multi‑threaded applications.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.
- Proficiency with RTOS, Linux device drivers, and/or embedded Linux.
- Experience troubleshooting embedded targets and designing real‑time embedded solutions.
- Knowledge of modern computer architectures and hardware technologies (x86, ARM, FPGAs).
- Background in bare‑metal software development.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git or Subversion.
- Understanding of building and maintaining a CMake‑based code base with automated testing (Google Test).
U.S. citizenship required. Candidate must obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Salary Range$118,300 – $224,900 USD, based on experience and qualifications.
