Career And Technical Education Teacher

Qualifications:

Must meet minimum state certification requirements in accordance with the CTE program area.
Completion of all state requirements to gain teacher certification.
Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Principal/Director of Career & Technical Education/Designee

Duties And Responsibilities:

Defines goals and objectives for unit and daily plans.

Sequences content and activities appropriately.

Identifies specific intended learning outcomes which are challenging, meaningful, and measurable.

Plans and prepares a variety of learning activities considering individual student's culture, learning styles, special needs, and socio-economic background.

Develops or selects instructional activities which foster active involvement of students in the learning process.

Plans and prepares lessons and instructional strategies which support the school improvement plan and the system mission.

Establishes and maintains a positive and safe learning environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.

Maintains a working relationship with community and state agencies involved in assigned area.

Continuously appraises and evaluates the program to assure that students are being prepared for gainful employment.

Coordinates work experiences and job shadowing experiences that emerge from students' involvement in the program.

Follows the course of study set by the State Department of Education for assigned Career/Technical Program.

Utilizes program funds in a manner that enhances the assigned program.

Works to identify and define local job opportunities available to Program graduates.

Maintains a clean, attractive, and organized learning environment.

Establishes and maintains efficient record-keeping procedures.

Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of curriculum content.

Provides instruction on safety procedures and proper handling of materials and equipment.

Supports school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, services, and programs.

Ensures that student growth/achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or student program classification.

Manages and facilitates the Career and Technical Student organization including training officers, travel for conferences and competitions.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics of students in the age group assigned.
Knowledge of workforce trends related to the program area.
Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum.
Knowledge of current educational research.
Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology.
Knowledge of learning styles and skills in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles.
Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents, and others.
Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness.
Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results and prescribe actions for improvement.
Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn.
Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators, and others.

Terms Of Employment:

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
