Sr. Trade Specialist
Reporting to the Trade Compliance Manager, based in Rantoul, IL or Irvine, CA.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement export compliance strategies aligned with U.S. and international regulations.
- Manage export licensing activities including DSP-5, DSP-73, and technical assistance agreements (TAAs).
- Conduct product classification and jurisdiction analysis under ITAR and EAR.
- Submit and manage export authorizations via DECCS, AES, and SNAP‑R.
- Monitor and apply ITAR exemptions and EAR exceptions appropriately.
- Educate internal stakeholders on export control laws through training and outreach.
- Manage import compliance programs, including tariff classification (with emphasis on apparel), valuation, and country of origin determinations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Foreign Trade Zones (FTZs), including regulatory compliance and operational processes.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of customs declarations and related documentation.
- Monitor changes in import regulations and recommend strategic adjustments to maintain compliance.
- Conduct internal audits and assessments of import activities to identify and mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with customs brokers and government agencies to resolve compliance‑related issues.
- Manage the calculations for preferential duty treatment under Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), ensuring strong internal controls (procedures, work instructions, forms, checklists, and tools).
- Analyze transactions for potential risk and confirm that due diligence requirements are met.
- Possess knowledge of U.S. Customs programs such as Reconciliation and Duty Drawback.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement duty mitigation opportunities and programs.
- Support additional tasks as needed to maintain an effective international trade compliance program.
- Licensed Customs Broker (LCB).
- Bachelor's degree in International Business, Logistics, or related field (Master's preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in global trade compliance, including import/export operations.
- Strong Excel skills, including ability to research transactions and prepare different reports in the Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) and ACE Portal.
- Experience with government systems (DECCS, AES, SNAP‑R) and screening tools (e.g., NAVEX).
$75,600.00 - $ (salary based on experience, location, education, and skills).
