Work Schedule:Monday - Friday 8AM - 5PM
Rate of Pay:This is a Full-Time Support Staff position at grade 14, with an annual salary range of $54,932 to $72,243. The salary offer will be based on education and experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), if applicable.

Job Summary:This role captures, edits, and produces high‑quality photography to support the brand and goals of Elgin Community College. The position serves as the primary photographer for the institution and collaborates with departments across campus to support the website, communications, social media, enrollment, institutional publications, convocations, and events. Responsibilities include photography for major publications such as Impact magazine and the annual Report to the Community, providing technical direction during photoshoots, and assisting with planning alongside marketing representatives and department leaders.
The role works closely with Marketing and Communications, creative services staff, and stakeholders across the college, producing a high volume of imagery essential for daily communications.
- Bachelor’s degree in photography, multimedia, photojournalism, journalism, or a related field
- At least five years of experience in digital photography and/or videography
- A photography portfolio demonstrating skills in lighting, composition, color, visual quality, and both pre‑ and post‑production workflows
- Advanced skills in capturing, editing, and adjusting photos; ability to work with video and audio as needed
- Strong knowledge of lighting techniques and camera equipment, including proper use and maintenance; basic knowledge of audio equipment
- Working knowledge of graphic design and experience collaborating with creative professionals such as designers, videographers, and web teams
- Understanding of delivering timely, newsworthy photography to the communications team to support press releases, media outreach, and institutional storytelling
- Ability to apply creative thinking and problem‑solving in a professional setting
- Strong collaboration skills, including patience, flexibility, and teamwork
- Experience with project planning and strong organizational skills
- Ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills with people at all levels of the college
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments
- Proven ability to consistently produce high‑quality, creative images
- Flexibility to adjust work schedule, with advance notice, for campus events
- Ability to travel occasionally for off‑site photoshoots
- Membership in a college photography association is encouraged
- FAA Part 107 drone certification is preferred
- Photo Direction:
Work as part of the creative, communications, and marketing teams to plan and execute photography that supports marketing campaigns, publications, and college priorities.
