High School Media Club Sponsor
The High School Media Club Sponsor provides leadership and supervision for a student-centered media program that promotes school culture, communication, and student voice. The sponsor facilitates student learning in digital media production and oversees the creation and publication of weekly video content highlighting school events, announcements, celebrations, and community engagement. This position requires approximately 46 hours per week outside of the regular school day, this includes the recording of the videos, editing, getting approval from the Principal, uploading the video to youtube and providing the link on Friday of each week.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Recruit, supervise, and mentor student members participating in the Media Club.
- Facilitate weekly meetings and provide instruction in video production, digital storytelling, and responsible media practices.
- Coordinate, film, edit, and publish two videos each week:
Student News and Feature Video, including school announcements, monthly celebrations, student achievements, and coverage of school events and activities. - Collaborate with students and staff to identify stories and events that highlight the accomplishments and culture of the school community.
- Develop a script for the student video along with students
- Actively recruit to build the crew
- Capture video footage and photographs at school events as needed.
- Utilize video editing and media software to produce high-quality content for distribution through school communication platforms.
- Maintain organization of digital files, media equipment, and production schedules.
- Ensure all media content aligns with district policies and promotes a positive school climate.
- Foster student leadership, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills through participation in the club.
Education:
High school diploma required. Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Production, Education, or a related field preferred.
Experience/Knowledge:
Experience working with high school students preferred. Knowledge and experience with digital media production and video editing software, including but not limited to Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Canva, iMovie, or similar applications. Familiarity with cameras, audio equipment, lighting, and digital content creation. Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work collaboratively with students and staff.
Physical Demands:
Ability to move throughout the building and attend school events. Ability to lift and transport media equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability to sit for extended periods while editing digital media. Ability to operate computers, cameras, and other audiovisual equipment.
Terms of Employment:
This is an Appendix F stipend position in accordance with the school year calendar. For Non-ETA Coaches: this position is for this year only. Terms of employment will be determined in collaboration with the athletic/activity director.
