Position Overview
The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Physician Specialist Option C for the Elgin Mental Health Center located in Elgin, Illinois. The role requires a licensed psychiatrist to perform general physician duties, provide medical examinations, diagnoses, observations, and treatment for psychiatric patients. The physician will also assist in treatment planning, offer consultation to non‑psychiatric medical staff, and coordinate care plans for a variety of patients.
EssentialFunctions
- Practice as a psychiatrist utilizing psychiatric specialty.
- Participate as a unit psychiatrist and coordinate medical audits or program reviews.
- Serve as a consultant to other non‑psychiatric physicians and staff regarding patient progress, medical or psychometric procedures, and overall treatment plans.
- Participate in staff development programs for medical, nursing, and direct‑care personnel through classroom lectures and in‑service training.
- Perform other duties as required that are normally within the scope of the enumerated duties.
- Valid State of Illinois Physician and Surgeon License.
- Completion of an approved residency in psychiatry.
- One year of professional experience evaluating the quality of specialized medical care for patients with mental illness.
- One year of experience coordinating medical services with multiple professional disciplines.
- One year of experience conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations.
- One year of experience identifying appropriate positive treatment options and executing them according to best practices.
- One year of experience communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
- One year of experience preparing comprehensive and specialized medical records and reports.
- Possession of a valid Illinois Controlled Substance License.
- Possession of a valid United States Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate of Registration.
- Ability to meet the requirements of and be appointed to the medical staff association of Elgin Mental Health Center within 30 days of employment.
- Ability to travel as required by job duties.
- Ability to walk and stand for significant periods, including stooping, bending, lifting or exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to participate in restraint interventions as part of patient management.
- Ability to maintain current Basic Life Support Certification.
- Ability to testify in court.
- Ability to serve as Medical Officer of the Day after business hours, weekends, and holidays in case of emergency.
- Ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois law.
Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm; 30‑minute paid lunch
