Function / Position Summary

The Mentorship and Student Engagement Lead develops, implements, and monitors a district-wide mentoring program for students in grades 4 12 in alignment with the U-46 Strategic Plan and the District's equity commitments. This position ensures mentoring programs support student persistence, belonging, and leadership development, with intentional focus on girls and students from historically marginalized communities.

The Lead promotes student voice, identity development, and postsecondary readiness by supporting students in building confidence, navigating conflict, addressing bias and discrimination, and engaging meaningfully in their school and community.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Design and develop a comprehensive district wide mentoring framework that establishes clear expectations, structures, and best practices.
  • Implement and monitor a district-wide mentoring program aligned to U-46 priorities and equity goals.
  • Create and maintain a culturally responsive scope and sequence for mentoring that includes identity development, self-advocacy, conflict resolution, restorative practices, and college/career exploration.
  • Facilitate and support regular mentor-mentee engagement to promote relationship-building, student voice, and leadership development.
  • Recruit, train, and retain a diverse pool of mentors; provide ongoing professional learning in culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equity-centered practices.
  • Serve as a liaison among mentor programs, school sites, and district departments to ensure coherence and alignment.
  • Support students in exploring postsecondary pathways through partnerships, guest speakers, and career-based learning opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with families using culturally responsive engagement strategies; provide resources to support student success.
  • Collaborate with administrators, counselors, teachers, and community organizations to strengthen program effectiveness.
  • Participate in Equity Committee work and African American Advisory Council efforts and support district Equity and Innovation initiatives.
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor program effectiveness, student engagement, and equitable access; use findings to inform continuous improvement.
  • Oversee program budgets and ensure responsible allocation of resources.
  • Support summer school mentoring programming, including review of curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Remain current on research, best practices, and policies related to mentoring, student success, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
  • Participate on site-based leadership teams as needed.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in education, counseling, social work, or related fields.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Experience / Knowledge
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and implementing youth development or mentoring programs.
  • Prior mentoring experience required
  • Knowledge of best practices in student engagement, persistence, and mentoring.
  • Ability to understand and facilitate conversations related to equity, identity, and social justice.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to manage programs effectively.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and alignment to District priorities.
  • Proficiency with technology to support program implementation and data tracking.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to assist in lifting up to 50 lbs. with proper technique.
Terms of Employment
  • This is a 12-month position.
  • Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
  • The salary range for this position is $45,257.00 - $67,885.00. Our typical practice is to hire in between the minimum and midpoint $56,571.00 salary).
