All of Perspectives Charter Schools achieved Level 1 or 1+ this year. As one of the first charter schools in Illinois, Perspectives has a long record of preparing scholars for success in college and beyond. Our five schools across the South Side of Chicago offer an education that combines character development and academic rigor through the A Disciplined Life education model.
Our scholars come from some of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in the country, but they graduate from high school, enroll in college, and persist in college at a rate above the national average. The keys to our success are our dedicated, hard-working, creative, and compassionate teachers.
Job Purpose The role of a teacher is to create a flexible program and class environment that is favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for all students in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and staff members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teaches Spanish, utilizing courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and all other appropriate learning activities
Literate and fluent in Spanish, can develop a cultural understanding and appreciation of Spanish speaking countries
Develops fluency and can guide students in conversational Spanish Develops lessons plans and instructional materials, provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
Translates lessons plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports
Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program
Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems
Creates an affective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities
Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines
Selects/requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records
Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day Administers group standardized tests in accordance with State testing program
Participates in curriculum development programs as required
Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal or other school leadership
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or Education from an accredited College or University Team player with experience working in a collaborative environment
Ability to listen to and communicate with parents
Possess conflict resolution skills
Utilizes good organizational skills to meet classroom and individual needs
Capable of working with small/large classroom groups
