Function/ Position Summary

The Bloom Teacher provides individualized, small-group, and whole-group instruction within Bloom Academy's 45-day diagnostic intervention program, across multiple grade levels. This position supports students who require targeted behavioral and social-emotional interventions to successfully transition back to their home schools or another program. The Bloom Teacher collaborates closely with the school team to implement trauma-informed practices, data-driven instruction, and personalized learning strategies that promote student growth and self-regulation.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Develop and foster positive, trusting relationships with each student and their family to support engagement, motivation, and progress within the 45-day intervention program.
  • Plan and deliver individualized and small-group instruction across various grade levels, aligned to district curriculum and student intervention goals.
  • Implement trauma-informed, restorative, and proactive classroom management strategies to promote emotional regulation and positive behavior.
  • Collaborate with the Behavior Specialist, Social Worker, TAT, and building teams to develop and implement targeted academic and behavioral interventions.
  • Utilize data to monitor student progress, adjust instructional strategies, and document growth during the intervention period.
  • Support the development and use of visuals, routines, and structured supports to reinforce self-regulation and independence.
  • Participate in transition planning and communication with home schools to ensure continuity of supports and interventions.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and daily performance for ongoing review and transition reporting.
  • Participate in professional learning and team collaboration to strengthen intervention strategies and instructional practices.
  • Serve as a trained CPI/Ukeru staff member, using de-escalation and crisis prevention techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
  • Assist in supporting students during crisis situations and contribute to the development of proactive behavior supports.
  • Collaborate with administrators and colleagues to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that emphasizes growth and restoration.
  • Perform other requirements of the job in accordance with the ETA collective bargaining agreement.
Education
  • Illinois Teaching Certificate.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related subject from an accredited university.
  • Previous experience in Special Education (e.g., LBS1) is preferred but not necessary for hire.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English Certification is preferred but not necessary for hire.
Experience / Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Common Core State Standards and developmentally appropriate instructional practices.
  • Understanding of differentiated instruction and strategies to support diverse learners, including English language learners.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based behavioral and social-emotional intervention strategies to support students with a range of learning and behavioral needs.
Physical Demands
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
Terms of Employment
  • This is a 9-month work-year position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
