The Coordinator of Religious Education supports the mission of St. Brigid Parish: unity in Christ, renewal of faith, and charitable service. This ministry is rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church and aligned with the catechetical vision of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Position SummarySt. Brigid Parish is seeking a part-time Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE) to oversee and strengthen the parish’s Grades 1–8 religious education and sacramental preparation programs.
The CRE is responsible for the organization, coordination, and smooth operation of the program. This role requires strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with parish staff and volunteers. The focus of this position is the effective management and steady development of an already established parish religious education program.
Primary Responsibilities Program Coordination- Oversee and coordinate the parish Religious Education program for Grades 1–8.
- Organize sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.
- Ensure curriculum and sacramental preparation follow Archdiocesan guidelines.
- Maintain the Sunday morning class schedule (9:30–10:45 AM) and one weekday evening session as needed.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer catechists.
- Provide clear expectations and regular communication to catechists.
- Ensure Safe Environment compliance for all volunteers.
- Conduct periodic catechist meetings for planning and support.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding schedules, sacramental timelines, and program expectations.
- Collaborate with St. Patrick School regarding sacramental preparation.
- Utilize Parish Soft and other digital tools for communication and recordkeeping.
- Provide bilingual support (English/Spanish) as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, sacramental preparation, and volunteer compliance.
- Oversee registration in collaboration with parish administrative staff.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining the Parish Soft Religious Education module.
- Coordinate materials and logistics for classes and sacramental celebrations.
- Work collaboratively with existing parish administrative staff while maintaining primary responsibility for program organization and follow-through.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend practical improvements.
- Develop, in collaboration with the Pastor, a 1–3 year plan to strengthen and stabilize the parish Religious Education program.
- Coordinate sacramental retreats.
- Assist with family faith formation events during Advent and Lent.
- Support parish-wide catechetical initiatives (e.g., Catechetical Sunday).
- Provide reasonable accommodations for students with special pastoral or educational needs.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing.
- Experience in parish religious education or catechetical ministry.
- Strong organizational and administrative ability.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Collaborative leadership style.
- Compliance with Archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements.

This position has an hourly salary range of $20.00 - $30.00. An employee’s pay within the hourly salary range will be based on many factors including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
