Building substitutes implement the daily student instructional plan in the absence of the classroom teacher, guide the learning process toward the achievement of the district curriculum and goals effectively, ensure a safe classroom environment and proper classroom management, and maintain reasonable rules of conduct encouraging self‑discipline and responsibility. Building substitutes serve as a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism that includes a positive attitude, respectful communication, and professional appearance.

They are assigned to one building for the duration of the school year.

• Report to the main office upon arrival for assignments and check out at the end of the day.
• Adhere to the work schedule to allow enough time for check‑in, review of substitute plans, and be prepared for the day when students enter the classroom.
• Implement the instructional plans prepared by the teacher and/or school administrator.
• Complete all duties of the teacher, including supervision assignments (e.g., bus duty, hall duty, study hall, lunchroom/recess).
• Complete daily reports required by the teacher, including attendance and feedback regarding instruction, discipline, and other events of the day.
• Complete any additional work directed by administration during free periods.
• Actively engage with students during assignments, clearly communicate expectations, and adapt to individual learning needs, providing individual and small‑group instruction.
• Follow all necessary and reasonable safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality regarding the school, students, parents, or other staff members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree or higher.
• Illinois State Board of Education substitute teacher license requirements, with registration in Kane County: either a Professional Educator License or a Substitute Teaching License.

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administration, parents, students, and staff members.
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues.
• Ability to remain flexible and willing to adapt to change at short notice.
• Ability to use initiative to problem‑solve when issues arise and make decisions based on the best interest of students.

• Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
• Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
• Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.

• This is a position for the 2026‑2027 academic year only.
• Salary and benefits are established by the Board of Education.

• The daily rate for this position is $145/Day.
