School Counselor - Temporary LOA (0.5 FTE) "Anticipatory"

License RequiredProfessional Educator License (registered in DuPage County) with endorsement for high school in the subject identified.
Qualifications- Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement as a School Counselor at the high school grade level.
- Knowledge and practices as it relates to supporting (all) students' ability to learn.
- Principal and School Counseling Department Chair of the building assigned.
- Monitor the overall progress of the student in educational development, career planning, and personal relationships.
- Initiate communication with students, parents, referral agencies and appropriate school personnel.
- Provide information on curriculum and graduation requirements while assisting students with enrollment and the development of a four-year plan.
- Provide general information about post‑secondary opportunities.
- Counsel students dealing with academic, personal or social problems that impede their educational progress.
- Provide secondary school information and recommendations as needed.
- Administer tests and interpret results for students, parents, and school personnel.
- Assist students in developing appropriate career plans.
- Collect, prepare, maintain, and assist in the effective use of student records.
- Orient freshmen and transfer students to school.
- Make referrals to appropriate in‑school personnel and outside agencies (e.g., social worker, psychologist, family services).
- Provide crisis intervention for students when possible.
- Maintain the highest level of ethical and professional demeanor with students and staff in accordance with district policies.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills when interacting with supervisors, parents, students, peers, and other school stakeholders.
- Maintain and submit accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
- Provide appropriate supervision and take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Do not administer corporal punishment or touch students.
- May perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or building Principal.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as correspondence, surveys and electronic media.
- Ability to write professional communications.
- Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from individuals and groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form.
- Ability to complete mathematical operations and apply basic concepts of mathematics.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to maintain current job skills, especially in technology‑related activities.
- Ability to perform essential duties with an awareness of district requirements and board policies.
- Physical demands; reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
- Regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, operate duplicating machines and computer equipment; reach with hands and arms.
- May occasionally lift up to 30 pounds (e.g., reference books).
- Noise level usually moderate; pace of work tasks considered fast.
- Work primarily at one site, but may attend meetings, conferences, or workshops at other sites as assigned.
