Function / Position Summary
The Early Childhood Assessment Diagnostician will plan for and conduct the screening and assessment of preschool-age students. Additionally, the diagnostician will analyze and interpret results of assessments for educational planning and communicating with the family of the preschool child.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Displays a thorough knowledge of early childhood development, special education disabilities, and authentic assessment practices for early learners.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of assessment instruments and highly skilled in best practices with early learners.
  • Participates in service teams to address referral questions for the domain sheet.
  • Obtains information from parents regarding a student's abilities in a culturally and linguistically sensitive manner.
  • Reviews student educational history as provided.
  • Conducts assessment of students.
  • Collaborates with the assessment team to analyze data and create IEP goals and objectives based on educational needs, and assists in the development of accommodations.
  • Enters diagnostic information into the district's computer-based IEP system (ESPED).
  • Effectively communicates assessment results to parents, colleagues, support staff and administrators.
  • Works collaboratively with the Early Learner and Special Education Departments in planning, conducting and reporting Child Find procedures and data.
  • Participates in community outreach activities to support Child Find.
  • Interacts with students, parents and building staff in an empathetic and collaborative manner respecting differences in culture and values.
  • Works cooperatively with building principal and/or director in assessing his/her teaching strengths and weaknesses, and planning and implementing a program to improve his/her teaching competencies.
  • Participates in required district or state professional development activities.
  • Participates on curriculum, personnel, policy or professional development committees related to the educational program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal, director or other administrative staff.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or special education from accredited university.
  • Illinois Early Childhood Teaching Certificate with Early Childhood Special Education Approval or Special Teaching Certificate with LBS1 endorsement and Early Childhood Special Education Approval.
  • ESL endorsement is preferred but not necessary for hiring.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.
Experience / Knowledge
  • Teaching experience in early childhood and with children with disabilities.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
Physical Demands
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Stooping, bending, reaching and working at a child's level necessary.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors.
Terms of Employment
  • This is a temporary position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
