Non-EL and Private Placement ESL Teacher
The primary goal of this position is to provide content and language development support in an effort to improve academic achievement for students identified as English Learners. Specifically, it is to raise the level of language acquisition instruction at our internal and external outplacement schools by supporting English Learners (EL's) students and classroom teachers in identifying and sustaining best practices that are culturally and linguistically responsive.
A primary function of this role is traveling to serve students outplaced to private placement facilities all around the Chicagoland area.
Job duties include providing language acquisition support to students in a self-contained setting with complex learning needs, assisting students in multiple languages to further their education and language proficiency growth, developing lesson plans and instructional materials, establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior, evaluating students' language, academic and social growth, attending IEP meetings, communicating with parents, identifying student cultural and linguistic needs, supporting the creation of an effective environment for learning, participating in professional development opportunities, collaborating with schools and/or private placement facilities, administering group-standardized tests and language screening, participating in faculty committees and student activities, maintaining confidentiality, and engaging in meetings with the MME Department, coaches, and/or other Equity and Innovation groups.
Education:
Professional educator license issued by the state of Illinois with a Bilingual and/or ESL Endorsement required. Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) certified strongly preferred.
Experience/Knowledge:
Strong knowledge in fundamental principles of ESL teaching and learning, good command of the written and spoken language in both English and the desired language, in-depth knowledge of reading and writing processes, assessment, and instruction for EL's at the elementary level, outstanding communication, presentation, and facilitation skills in English and home language, knowledge of academic and language progress monitoring and analyzing benchmark assessments, computer literacy, ability to research online resources, expertise in selecting and implementing instructional materials for EL students, strong organizational skills, and exemplary interpersonal and communication skills.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time, occasional physical exertions to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials, ability to travel between school sites both inside and outside of the district boundaries.
Terms of Employment:
This is a 9-month position. Salary and benefits are established by the Board of Education. The starting salary for this position is $60,689.
