Function / Position SummaryBuilding substitutes implement daily student instructional plan in the absence of the classroom teacher, guide the learning process toward the achievement of the District curriculum and goals in an effective manner, ensure a safe classroom environment and proper classroom management, and maintain reasonable rules of conduct encouraging self-discipline and responsibility. Building substitutesserveasapositiverolemodelforstudents,demonstratingprofessionalismthatincludes a positive attitude, positive and respectful communication, and professional appearance.
Building substitutes are assigned in one building for the duration of the school year.
- Reportstothemainofficeuponarrivalforassignmentsandchecksoutinthemain office at the end of the day.
- Adherestothework scheduletoallowenoughtimeforcheckin, reviewof substituteplans, and be prepared for the day when the students enter the classroom.
- Implementstheinstructionalplanspreparedbytheteacherand/orschooladministrator.
- Completesalldutiesoftheteacherincludingsupervisionassignments(i.e.busduty,hall duty, study hall, lunchroom/recess).
- Completesdailyreportsrequiredoftheteacher,includingattendanceandfeedback regarding instruction, discipline, and other events of the day.
- Completesanyadditionalworkasdirectedbyadministrationduringfreeperiods.
- Activelyengageswithstudentsduringassignments,clearlycommunicatesexpectations, andadaptstoindividuallearningneeds,providingindividualandsmallgroupinstruction.
- Followsallnecessaryandreasonablesafetyprecautionstoprotectstudents,equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintainsahighlevelofprofessionalism,integrity,andconfidentialityinregardstoschool,students,parents,orotherstaffmembers.
- Performotherdutiesasassigned.
- Bachelor'sdegreeor higher.
- Illinois State Boardof Educationlicensurerequirementsfor Substitute Teacherwhichinclude one of the following (license must be registered in Kane County):
- Professional Educator License
- Substitute Teaching License
- Abilitytoeffectivelypresentinformationandrespondtoquestionsfromadministration, parents, students and staff members.
- Abilitytoworkcooperativelyandeffectivelywithcolleagues.
- Abilitytoremainflexibleandbewillingtoadapttochangeatshortnotice.
- Abilitytouseinitiativetoproblem solvewhenissuesariseandmakedecisionsbasedonthe best interest of students.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Thisisapositionfortheacademicyear only.
- Salaryandbenefitsareasestablishedby the Board of Education.
- The daily rate for this position is $145/Day
