Specialized Student Services (SSS) Instructional Itinerant

Implement the U-46 science curriculum and classroom instruction with fidelity to improve academic achievement for all students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP).

Plan a program of study that follows district guidelines for multiple grade levels and, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students. Implement researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students; acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds. Create an environment conducive to learning and motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback. Implement current district science curriculum for students in a self contained setting that is grade level appropriate with appropriate modifications and accommodations per the IEP.

Implement program curriculum for students in a self contained setting. Plan for and guide the learning process toward the mastery of science curriculum goals, and establish clear learning targets and success criteria for all lessons, units, and projects that are clearly communicated to students. Collaborate with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration.

Collaborate with the Office of K-12 Science & Planetarium, Student Wellness and Specialized Student Services departments on a regular basis for support in implementing the intended curriculum and specialized support. Implement formative and summative assessments of student progress to drive instruction and communicate progress to students and parents. Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivate students to work collaboratively and to their highest potential.

Work cooperatively with building principal, special education administrator, and/or content coordinators in assessing his/her teaching strengths and weaknesses, and planning and implementing a program to improve his/her teaching competencies. Participate in professional learning in the areas of science and program curriculum with embedded teaching strategies to meet the needs of special education students. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and Board policy.

Implement student and classroom behavior management supports/plans and assist in implementing student discipline policies. Provide administration directed special education instructional support or intervention if content specific minutes do not meet the specials instructional minutes target. May provide direct cross categorical resource service minutes. May have case management responsibilities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in related subject from accredited university (Preferred) Appropriate Illinois teaching certificate (Required) LBS1 Certification (Required) Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) (Preferred) Knowledge of the Illinois Learning Standards (CCSS 2014). Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards. Knowledge of Phenomena driven, Inquiry instructional strategies is preferred. Knowledge of and ability to implement specialized instruction. Teaching experience is preferred, but not necessary for hiring.

Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Must be able to commute between several different locations throughout the district. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.

This is a 10-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education. The starting salary is $60,689.
