The Lunch & Recess Support role provides active supervision, support, and direction for kindergarten through 4th grade students during lunch and recess periods. This role helps create a safe, positive, orderly, and Christ-centered environment in the cafeteria, playground, indoor recess spaces, and other designated areas.
Collaborating with teachers, staff, and school leadership, the Lunch & Recess Support role reinforces student safety, positive behavior, and the School’s shared expectations and values. This position requires active supervision, positive student interactions, sound judgment, and an appropriate response to student needs, conflicts, injuries, and other situations that may arise during lunch and recess.
Scope of RolePart-time; approximately 7.5 hours per week during designated student lunch and recess periods.
EssentialRoles & Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Student Supervision, Safety & Support
- Provide active and attentive supervision of kindergarten through 4th grade students during lunch and recess
- Monitor students throughout assigned areas, including the cafeteria, playground, indoor recess spaces, and other designated areas
- Maintain awareness of student activity and respond promptly to safety concerns or student needs
- Follow school procedures for student safety, emergencies, injuries, and illness
- Administer basic first aid as needed and report incidents according to school procedures
- Ensure students remain in designated areas and follow established routines and expectations
- Assist with transitions to and from lunch and recess in an orderly and timely manner
- Monitor equipment and facilities and report safety or maintenance concerns to the appropriate staff member
- Consistently use and reinforce the five K–4 expectations in all interactions with students
- Reinforce expectations through positive recognition, encouragement, reminders, and appropriate redirection while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Use consistent shared language when addressing student behavior so that expectations remain clear across classrooms, lunch, and recess
- Encourage students to take responsibility for their choices and behavior
- Respond calmly and appropriately to student conflicts and behavioral concerns
- Help students resolve minor conflicts through appropriate problem-solving and reconciliation, encouraging them to tell the truth, take responsibility, and make things right
- Communicate significant or recurring behavior concerns to the appropriate teacher or administrator
- Treat all students with respect, kindness, dignity, and fairness
- Supervise students during the lunch period and help maintain a safe, calm, and orderly cafeteria environment
- Reinforce the five K–4 expectations during lunch, particularly Love Others, Listen and Obey, Do Your Best and Take Care, and Tell the Truth and Make it Right
- Reinforce cafeteria expectations related to voice level, movement, cleanliness, and respectful behavior
- Assist students as needed while encouraging age-appropriate independence and responsibility
- Monitor students for safety concerns, including food-related issues and allergies as communicated by the school
- Encourage students to take care of their food, personal belongings, cafeteria space, and school property
- Help students clean their eating areas and maintain an orderly cafeteria
- Support efficient transitions into and out of the cafeteria
- Actively supervise students during indoor and outdoor recess
- Monitor playground, indoor recess spaces, and other recess areas to promote safe and appropriate play
- Reinforce the five K–4 expectations during recess, particularly Love Others, Listen and Obey, and Do Your Best and Take Care
- Reinforce playground, equipment, and indoor recess expectations
- Encourage positive participation, cooperation, inclusion, and respectful interaction among students
- Encourage students to care for one another, playground equipment, and school property
