Branch Early Literacy Coordinator

Are you a creative, hands-on leader with a passion for bringing the library to life for our youngest customers? The Branch Early Literacy Coordinator plans and presents engaging early childhood programs for children from birth through kindergarten, including story times, play programs, crafts, and other early literacy experiences at our branch locations.

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic team player with excellent communication and customer service skills who is passionate about early literacy and creating welcoming, engaging learning experiences for young children and their families.

• Coordinate, plan, and present early childhood programs and events at both branch locations, including weekly story times, play programs, and crafts.
• Oversee children’s spaces to ensure a pleasant and playful learning environment.
• Facilitate age-appropriate self-directed programming activities.
• Provide basic readers’ advisory and reference assistance to children, teens, and adults.
• Assist customers with computer applications, eReaders, and other mobile devices.
• Serve as Person in Charge when needed.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience working with children in group settings.
• Experience or knowledge of early literacy practices and programming preferred.
• Knowledge and experience with basic computer and mobile technology.
• Previous library and customer service experience preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills a plus.

37.5 hours per week. Schedule will include weekday, evening, and weekend hours. Primary work locations will be the Rakow and South Elgin Branches.

$25.00 per hour + participation in IMRF + Excellent Benefits.
