We are seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to support CNC grinding and turning machine tool applications. This role is responsible for process development, tooling selection, testing, installation, startup, and runoff for standard and turnkey projects. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, customer-facing experience, and the ability to work cross-functionally in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Review customer part requirements to determine appropriate fixturing, cutting tools, grinding wheels, and machining processes.
- Develop and validate machining processes for standard and turnkey CNC grinding and turning applications.
- Perform machine demonstrations, time studies, feasibility studies, and sample part evaluations in support of sales and customer requirements.
- Conduct process acceptance testing and provide operator and customer training both on-site and at customer facilities.
- Provide application support for trade shows and open house events.
- Assist with prototype machine testing, including PLC functionality, mechanical systems, and control software options.
- Provide technical phone and remote support to customers, sales teams, and distributors.
- Participate in training seminars and continuing education to stay current with machining technology and controls.
- Support installation, startup, and machine runoff activities at customer sites.
- Associate degree in Engineering or completion of a Technical Certification Program preferred.
- Non-degreed candidates with equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- 5–7 years of CNC machine tool experience, with a strong focus on grinding and turning applications.
- Prior customer-facing or applications support experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of Siemens, Fanuc, and Mitsubishi CNC controls.
- Experience with G-code and conversational programming.
- CAD/CAM CNC programming experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Solid Works preferred.
- ERP system experience (JD Edwards or similar) beneficial.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional team environments.
- Professional demeanor when representing the organization with customers and partners.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Salary Range: $90,000 – $100,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
