This position reports to the Engineering Manager. The role is on-site and represents ABB at our customer site while providing excellent technical service and reliable collaboration.
Responsibilities- Serve as the technical lead for maintaining and supporting the customer's manufacturing control systems (e.g., steel casting).
- Lead ABB Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities on site, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and safe operation of all automation systems.
- Interpret and apply customer documentation, including control lists, drawings, electrical onelines, P&IDs, schematics, and other technical specifications.
- Program and troubleshoot controller and HMI applications using ABB and third-party PLC platforms (e.g., Rockwell Control Logix), applying IEC
61131 programming languages and configuring associated HMI devices. - Perform hands-on fieldwork, including operation and support of industrial networks and communication systems using standard bus protocols such as Ethernet-based devices.
- Associate's degree in process, electrical, or mechanical engineering or technology required. Experience in lieu of training with maintaining heavy industrial processes in chemical, metal, or rubber. Military (ship controls) experience will be considered.
- 10+ years of experience is required. Some of the experience we'd like to see from a potential candidate:
- Hands-on work with control systems and HMI hardware/software.
- Configuring control system software, hardware, and industrial communication protocols, with working knowledge of Modbus and Device Net.
- Applying controls engineering design experience, including control panel layouts and system integration.
- Developing and troubleshooting control programs for industrial applications, including heavy-industry processes.
- Demonstrating working knowledge of AC/DC motors and drives, as well as general industrial electrical and automation principles.
- Experience with the following is not required, but is nice-to-haves:
- AC800M (Control Builder), AC500 (Automation Builder) and/or Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation SLC/PLC-5 (RSLogix 500), Control/Compact Logix (RSLogix 5000) programming. Rockwell Studio 5000 for Control Logix and Factory Talk View for Panel View.
