Field Application Engineer - HARTING Technology Group

We are seeking a Field Application Engineer (Hybrid; based in Elgin, Illinois) to join our growing team. The Field Applications Engineer provides technical and application support to the HARTING sales force, direct customers, and distributors. The main responsibility of this position is to secure design wins across all product lines through quality customer and technical support and collaborative solution development. This person will report to the Field Application Engineer Supervisor.

Periodic travel will be required to support customers, sales team, and distribution partners.

• Advance sales opportunities toward design-in wins through technical support, solution development, and voice-of-customer feedback, including BOM building, coordinating prototype/sample builds, and creating comprehensive solution proposals.
• Respond to technical support inquiries from customers via the HARTING website and other digital contact platforms.
• Provide onsite support and presentations, product demonstrations in partnership with the responsible salesperson.
• Represent HARTING at trade shows and other customer-facing events.
• Create technical documentation for customized components (private label, customized, modified, kitted parts).
• Develop and manage internal and external tools (selection guides, catalogs, search tools) that consolidate and simplify component selection to increase overall sales, leveraging existing sales and technical platforms and AI.
• Provide product expertise and technical support for internal departments: marketing, product management, sales, business development, and product development.
• Create and present in‑person and virtual technical presentations and training for customers and internal HARTING personnel; develop training resources for employees related to product competence, utilization of digital tools, and job processes.
• Collaborate with product management to gather, develop, and implement resources for new product launches.
• Help create, facilitate, and maintain a technical onboarding program for new employees.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Required travel: 15‑25% of time; valid passport for periodic international travel.

• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four‑year college or university in an engineering discipline, preferably electrical or mechanical.
• 3‑4 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of current Windows OS and Office Suite products and various Windows applications, including presentation software.
• Proficient with e‑mail and web browsing; ability to document and provide information. Familiarity with AI tools is a plus.
• Experience with 3D modeling software is beneficial.

Competitive base salary: $85,000 - $92,000 per year (commensurate with experience, subject to change dependent on physical location). Eligible for a 5% discretionary annual bonus.
