Position: HOMECARE ASSISTANT

Home Care Assistant, Senior Resource Center at Family Service

Effective Date:
Immediately

As we help older adults stay independent, Home Care Assistants provide non‑medical supportive care in clients’ homes.

Responsibilities
  • Help with groceries, meal prep, laundry, and cleaning to maintain a clean, comfortable home.
  • Drive clients to appointments or stores, including loading/unloading groceries; requires a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
  • Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, transferring, supervision, and medication reminders according to the care plan.
  • Provide positive, uplifting companionship to clients.
  • Record tasks completed for each client daily.
  • Monitor and report changes in clients’ function, mental health, or cognitive status to supervisors.
  • Report any unsafe or unhealthy elements of the living environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings; apply policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Ideal candidate characteristics and requirements:

  • Interest in working with older adults.
  • High school diploma, GED, or one year of directly related experience (CNAs especially fit).
  • Reliable vehicle with standard safety features, valid driver’s license, and appropriate insurance.
  • Availability to work at least 10 hours per week during business hours.
  • Cordial, friendly, professional, and kind to clients.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Organized and efficient with minimal supervision.
  • Respectful of diverse lifestyles, cultures, temperaments, and needs.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform record‑keeping; spelling not critical.
  • Available by phone and can complete the Home Care Assistant training program successfully.
  • Successful background check; employment conditional pending compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health licensure regulations and Health Care Worker Background Check Act.
Legal Conditions

Employment will be conditional pending compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health licensure regulations. Applicants shall not have a disqualifying background check under the requirements of the Health Care Worker Background Check Act without a waiver.

Package

Hourly rate of $18.75; $19.25 for those with a CNA.

12 paid holidays per year.

PTO starts accruing at time of hire (maximum accrual bank of 200 hours) and can be taken after 90 days.
