Radiology Technologist- Overnights

Major Responsibilities

• Operates x-ray equipment to produce radiographs of designated portions of the body as ordered by a physician
• Accountable for the performance and documentation of all diagnostic procedures utilizing proper technical parameters to produce quality studies
• Knowledgeable in the safe use, maneuverability, and operation of all general radiography, portable, and fluoro equipment (if applicable to home site)
• Proficient in the performance of general diagnostic procedures; for home sites also proficient in general fluoroscopy procedures, including GI and pain procedures
• Adheres to infection prevention, isolation, and sterile techniques as they apply in patient handling and delivery of care
• Adheres to ALARA principles to reduce exposure to self, the patient, and others
• Utilizes proper patient identification to ensure the correct exam is performed on the correct patient at the correct time
• Obtains and records pertinent patient history, explains the procedure to the patient in a manner to ensure understanding, and ensures patient comfort during performance of the exam
• Adheres to department standards of radiographic quality
• Reviews radiographs to ensure optimum quality
• Reports environmental/equipment problems to appropriate resource personnel
• Performs required computer functions for RIS/HIS systems
• Labels all radiographs appropriately following department’s established criteria and standards
• Maintains a professional, team‑oriented attitude and collaborates with co‑workers, physicians, and internal customers/departments
• Provides positive interactions and a customer‑first approach with patients, families/caregivers, and visitors
• Participates in assessment of own learning needs and actively seeks opportunities for increased competency and growth
• Attends in‑services to ensure knowledge of current departmental and technical procedures
• Attends CPR classes to maintain re‑certification
• Maintains appropriate state license and national board certification
• Maintains supplies needed for quality patient care and ensures adequate inventory levels
• Ensures cleanliness of equipment and work area
• Maintains inventory of supplies in the work area; identifies supplies and equipment needs for procedures and restocks as necessary
• Uses Universal Precautions in daily performance of procedures

• Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
• IEMA Accreditation in Radiologic Technology
• ARRT (RT) Certification or Certificate Eligible. New graduates must obtain ARRT certification within one year of hire

• Good communication skills
• Understanding of RIS & PACS
• Ability to work under stressful situations
• Ability to handle patient information confidentially
• Ability to adapt to fluctuations in patient volumes to meet patient care and department needs

• Ability to work weekends and holidays to accommodate patient care needs
• Ability to work rotating shifts on any day of the week
• Ability to take calls and arrive on site within one hour
• May be exposed to radiation during procedures
• May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time or to lift and move patients
• May be exposed to hazardous materials and infectious disease; required to participate in annual emergency drills
• Required to maintain current CPR certification
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; for heavier lifts or when a patient cannot assist, use patient‑handling equipment with at least one other associate when available, and assess each lift on a case‑by‑case basis
