Housekeeper: Surgery

Under general direction, cleans all areas of the surgical department. Demonstrate ability to utilize the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.

• Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
• Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Surgical Department.
• Performs routine cleaning and immediate use cleaning of all areas of the surgical department.
• Performs terminal/detailed cleaning of the operating rooms by following check list.
• Completes work assignments in a timely manner.
• Utilizes the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
• Uses and maintains equipment properly. Assists visitors with directions whenever requested.
• Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
• Transports trash and hazardous waste to appropriate disposal area.
• Transports soiled linen to proper storage and ready’s linen for contract pickup.
• Delivers linen to departmental storage racks and re-covers linens after drop off.
• Follows all infection control practices including hand washing techniques, Standard Precautions and isolation precautions.
• Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
• Ability to do work on independently.
• Observes safety precautions at all times.
• The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to read and understand equipment operation manual.
• Cooperate with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives, maintain good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Surgical Services.
• Ensures that Service Excellence initiatives are carried out within the department.

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• Good oral and written skills.
• Ability to communicate with teammates.
• Ability to take direction from all members of the surgical team.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment to promote efficient case turn over.
• Ability to clean to environment with standards and expectations.
• Demonstrates the willingness to cooperate with other departments.

• Two years’ experience in housekeeping, custodial and laundry operations in a healthcare setting or two years’ experience in a commercial setting

• Exposed to cleaning agents and biological waste.
• May be required to lift 40lbs. or less.
• May involve the need to bend, twist, turn, walk, or crouch as part of the role.

Wage: $16.00-$16.50/hour (actual wage based on relevant experience)
